Beds & Bars

‘Beds and Bars’ are a dynamic and successful company operating a number of hostels, bars, pubs and clubs across Europe.

At their new Hammersmith Headquarters in London they wanted to make flexible use of the top floor of their building. The requirement was the capability to quickly and easily convert a central corridor + 2 meeting room layout into open areas as required.

Installation of our SM3 acoustic sliding folding partition system successfully achieved this goal for our client.

Becker recently Installed 5 identical Monoplan 100S movable walls in parallel at the above location. This layout allows the Academy to create up to 6 acoustically secure lecture rooms or to flexibly divide the area according to their needs.

The Monoplan S movable wall system with its robust internal steel frame and high pressure seals is particularly well suited for use in schools, colleges, academies and universities where the need for quick and easy use of the system must not compromise on its strength and durability.

Bovey Castle Hotel

Becker supplied and installed a Monplan S 100U movable wall to provide flexible acoustic division to the Dartmoor Suite at the impressive Bovey Castle Hotel. The Hotel boasts a spectacular 300 acre setting within the Dartmoor National Park and offers spa facilities together with an 18-hole championship golf course.

The 8 metre wide movable wall parks away in a purpose made cupboard to one side of the function suite; when in position, access through the wall is via a full height pass door finished in walnut veneer. The standard wall panels are clad in a stunning finish which was sourced from Salt Lake City, USA. The finish is a natural plant fibre laminated between 2 layers of clear vinyl. The backing boards were prepared in a green finish. Complemented by background lighting, the overall effect is of a vertical face of amber.

THE DECK at THE NATIONAL THEATRE

The National Theatre’s website describes The Deck as ‘a brand new summer function space utilizing one of the theatre’s highest Thames facing terraces. A prime location with one of the capital’s most iconic panoramas The Deck will appear as a glowing cubed structure with a distinctive inside-outside feel, created by using translucent materials. Making the most of its 90-degree vantage point….’

Our part of this exciting project was to install our Sunflex SF99/155 system consisting of 6 large sliding panels, with 3 panels meeting the other set of 3 at 90-degrees. All 6 panels slide back to open the internal function space onto the deck terrace

St. Paul’s Bow – A New Heart for Bow

In the initial stages of this award wining project Becker (Sliding Partitions) Ltd. were contacted by Matthew Lloyd Architects to help them design a moveable partition  that would provide flexible use to an area under a revolutionary ‘Ark’ construction. The steel framed and timber clad ‘Ark’ provides a multi purpose community space within the body of the church. The design specification required that the area under the Ark could be used either as another multi purpose space or revert to a worship area when required.
Becker’s solution was to supply and fit their Monoplan 110 Moveable Wall System. The top hung panels which form the wall are moved easily without the need for a floor track. Taking them from their parked location, the panels are slid into position; sprung loaded retractable seals are thenextended from the top and bottom of each panel thereby securing them and providing a positive acoustic seal at floor and ceiling level.
Two of the panels are fitted with glazed openings at high level to provide natural light to the function space.
When opening the wall, the panels are moved from the front to the back of the function space and parked out of the way in a corner.
St Paul’s Bow won the RICS Community Benefit Award 2005 for the London Region, and was Highly Commended nationally. It was also Highly Commended in the Woods Awards 2004 and shortlisted for the FX Awards 2004.

Vodafone Case Study

Becker (Sliding Partitions) Ltd are delighted to announce the completion of the Moveable Glass Wall at the recently refurbished Vodafone HQ in Newbury, Berkshire.

When CMI Consulting were deliberating on the best practical way to enhance the aesthetic appearance and functional space of the showroom at Vodafone HQ they looked no further than the Becker Monoglass L-35 moveable glass system. The remit required an open plan floor space to promote the latest products during the day and the flexibility to securely close the area off when not in use. Without compromising available space the panels slide into a recess when the shop is open. In the closed position, video images are projected onto the glass.

Becker having been established for the past 20 years relished the opportunity to work on such a prestigious project with undoubtedly one of the biggest blue chip companies in the world.

With only four weeks from initial enquiry to completion of the project, Becker’s experienced technical department worked closely with CMI Consulting and Simons Construction to ensure the end product was delivered and installed with minimum disturbance to the client.

The unique layout of the proposed system meant the design before manufacture had to be exactly right. After a site visit and close consultation with both CMI and Simons Construction all companies were confident they would have the system ready in time for the hand over and opening ceremony.

To ensure minimum disruption to the client the installation could only take place out of hours. Using their dedicated contractors to install the screen between the hours of 7pm and 7am the screen was installed over two very long nights.

Speaking after the handover to Vodafone, Peter West of CMI Consulting concluded ‘The clean and efficient service you provided throughout your short time on this project was truly remarkable, the client is delighted with the partition and would also like to express their thanks for providing such a stunning piece of engineering and craftsmanship. I look forward very much to working with you again.’’

Following the completion Becker (Sliding Partitions) Ltd are pleased to announce the completion of the Vodafone project in London, once again working with CMI Consulting and Simons Construction using the Monoplan S 100k Moveable Wall System.
